Days Off; A Calendar of Happenings

New York: The Junior Council of the Museum of Modern Art, 1970. First Edition. Folio, unpag. newsprint pages, stapled at top. Evenly toned; tear to the top of the front leaf and two tears to the rear, one of which has an old cellotape repair. Item #207879

A delicate and somewhat cumbersome document illustrated throughout with photographs of previous Happenings undertaken by Kaprow. A landmark of conceptual art -- Kaprow's Happenings were fundamentally ephemeral demarcations of time, marked by this calendar. As he writes in the introduction "This is a calendar of past events. The days on it are the days of the Happenings. They were days off. People played. Each day is a page, or more, that can be taken off and thrown away. The Happenings were throw-aways. Once only. Nothing left - except maybe thoughts."
