Atmospheric Variations

New York: Société Anonyme, n.d. (ca. 1926). Color offset card, 5-1/2 x 3-1/2 in. Very good. Item #207838

Color reproduction of an abstracted seascape by Dreier published by her Société Anonyme, Inc. Museum of Modern Art. Dreier founded the Société Anonyme in 1920 along with Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray in order to promote avant garde art in the U.S. The name "Museum of Modern Art" would later be taken by the well-known --and better funded -- institution founded by Alfred Barr in 1929. A great advocate for modern art, Dreier introduced a great number of prominent figures to American audiences. Her own considerable work has been rather neglected, overshadowed by that of the male artists she championed.
