Die Wohnung; Werkbund Ausstellung
Stuttgart: [Deutscher Werkbund], 1927. Adhesive label, 4 x 1-1/4 in. (10 x 3.3 cm) printed in blue and orange with perforated edging and gum adhesive on reverse. Torn from a larger sheet along perforated edges; fine. Item #207832
Original promotional label designed by Willi Baumeister for the historic Werkbund exhibition opening the Weissenhof Siedlung in Stuttgart, his hometown. Weissenhof was a landmark in the history of modern architecture: a compound of residential structures designed for modern living and promoted as a model for working-class housing. The roster of contributing architects included Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, who oversaw the entire project, as well as Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, Walter Gropius, Bruno Taut, Hans Scharoun, Peter Behrens, and others. Half of the development was destroyed by bombs during the Second World War. A delicate ephemeral item.
