The Bridge; A Poem. With Three Photographs by Walker Evans

Paris: Black Sun Press, 1930. First Edition. 4to., unpag.; original printed white wrappers. Small leather bookplate affixed to the reverse of the front wrapper, with a resultant spot of offsetting to the facing page; a tiny chip to the rear hinge of the spine; a touch of wear at the crown expertly mended; else a fine, bright copy in a new slipcase made to echo the silver-foil construction of the original. Item #207668

One of 200 numbered (#175) copies on Holland, this was from the publisher's own library and has the joint bookplate of Harry and Caresse Crosby. Harry Crosby committed suicide in New York in 1929 while The Bridge was in the early stages of production. He and Caresse had visited Crane just a few days earlier and in the aftermath of the scandalous death she returned to Paris to oversee the completion of the book. Schwartz & Schweik A2.
