One of just 25 copies issued as review copies and marked "hors commerce" in pencil at the colophon. A publisher's note that was sent with some copies of the hors commerce issue (though not present with this copy) read in part "due to a defective impression and quality of paper these advance copies of "The Bridge," hors commerce, are considered typographically imperfect. A re-impression on vélin Van Gelder of the numbered copies will appear for sale March 1st at the Bookshop of Harry F. marks, New York..." This would imply that the 25 hors commerce copies, along with the 50 numbered and signed copies on Japan vellum comprised a first printing before the type was reset for the regular issue. A close collation reveals differences in line spacing between the printings. It is unclear whether the review copies were issue in a slipcase, as were the copies for sale. Schwartz & Schweik A2.
