Club Ciné-Art; Invitation card

Paris: Club Ciné-Art, (1946). Invitation postcard, printed on one side of a slate-blue card approx. 4-1/4 X 5-1/2 in.; addressed and stamped on verso. A bit rumpled and marked from mailing. Item #206089

Invitation for the first screening of the 1946 season of this Paris film society, a program including G.W. Pabst's "Don Quichotee" with lecture by Alexandre Arnoux, and a celebration of twenty years of American "talkies". The immediate postwar period saw a profusion of such private film societies in France, offering their audiences a range of cinema unavailable in commercial movie houses, and providing an education in film history to the generation that transformed French film in innovative ways in the 1950s and 60s.
