Crucifix in a Deathhand; New Poems 1963-65: A Loujon Press Award Book . . . with etchings by Noel Rockmore

New York: Lyle Stuart, (1965). First edition. 4to, 101pp; original wrappers. Fine, bright copy with the original printed wraparound band (partly torn) and just the slightest of rubbing to the extremities. Item #204884

One of a stated 3100 copies in the edition, signed and dated by Bukowski at the colophon. As with all Loujon Press productions, the book is marked by a whimsical style using multi-colored papers of varying stocks and even sizes. Loujon proprietors Jon and Louise "Gypsy Lou" Webb were important early supporters of Bukowski, especially in their short-lived periodical "The Outsider". This book, along with their earlier Bukowski title, It Catches My Heart in its Hands, helped put him on the map early in his career and bring him to the attention of a literary audience that has continued to grow. An exceptionally fresh copy.
