Autograph letter signed; "Amalie Joachim," to Frau Breiderhoff, January 10, no year
-. Three pages on a small bifolium, approx. 3-1/2 X 5-1/4 in. Folded, and with one short edge-tear. Item #203509
A warm, emotional letter, thanking the recipient for her expression of concern, and discussing a loss. Amalie Joachim (1839-1899) was a popular singer as Amalie Weiss, before she married the composer and musician Joseph Joachim. Her performing career resumed after they divorced -- a great scandal at the time in 1884 -- and she became known again as a singer of Lieder, especially by her friends Johannes Brahms and Robert Schumann, and for promoting the songs of female composers such as Clara Schumann.
