The Grand Inquisitor

New York: Boni and Liveright, (1925). First edition. 8vo, [319]pp, patterned endpapers; black cloth with decorative purple stamping on spine. Covers rubbed and slightly marked, very good in a rubbed, price-clipped dust jacket with just a bit of edge wear and a couple of short closed tears to the rear hinge. Item #205652

A once well-regarded and now forgotten book by a once well-regarded and now forgotten writer. A contemporary reviewer compared Fitzgerald's Great Gatsby, published in the same year, to this book, in quality if not style. A nice presentation copy, inscribed on the verso of the front free endpaper to a fellow writer: "For Isidor Schneider, Director general of administrative affairs, technician of impeccable capacity, and a most engaging person, from Donald Douglas, January 1925"
