"The Secret"; in IT: Science Fiction, Vol. 1, No. 3

Corvallis/Coos Bay, Oregon: Summer 1952. 4to, [36]pp mimeograph periodical, printed on both sides, illustrated throughout; stapled into mimeographed covers. Gentle vertical fold; a touch of toning and soil, remarkably fresh and unworn. Item #206315

Mimeographed fanzine, edited by Walt Lee and Bob Chambers while both were students (Lee at Oregon State and Chambers at Caltech). As announced on the cover -- with an illustration by Lee -- this issue features "The Secret," a short story by Bradbury, with his signature reproduced in mimeo. In an editorial note, Chambers and Lee declare that "the acquisition of this fan publisher's dream is a long story. The Secret passed through many hands before we obtained it." External evidence suggests that Bradbury had written the story as early as 1940. It was later included in an appendix to the first volume of The Collected Stories. No copy of this short-lived serial is recorded in OCLC (as of March, 2022).
