Im Kampf um die Erwachsenenbildung,; 1912-1926

Leipzig: Verlag Quelle & Meyer, 1926. First Edition. 4to, 240pp + publisher's ads; original printed wrappers. Contemporary ownership signature on half-title; corner of the first two leaves creased; wear to delicate spine, still a very good, mostly uncut copy. Item #206257

A nice copy of this early work by Picht and Rosenstock on adult education. Loosely inserted is a moderately worn copy of Rosenstock's 1930 offprint from Jahrbuch für Erwachsenenbildung titled "Die Arbeitslager innerhalb der Erwachsenenbildung." Rosenstock (after his marriage he adopted the hyphenated name Rosenstock-Huessy) was a Jewish-born convert to Christianity, a polymath scholar, theologian, and longtime Dartmouth College professor after being forced into exile in the Nazi era. He is perhaps best remembered for his close friendship and profound philosophical exchange of letters with the German-Jewish theologian Franz Rosenzweig. Picht, a leading proponent of adult education in Weimar Germany, went on to become an official and propagandist in the Nazi period. Both of these publications are exceptionally scarce.
