Lipton's book helped define the Southern California Beatnik culture of Venice beach. This is a presentation copy, inscribed and signed by Lipton around the time of publication : "For Ivan, a gone swinging cat from in front! Later man, Larry. Lawrence Lipton, June '59." The book includes a glossary of beatnik terms -- useful for anyone needing help with terms such as "Gone," "Swinging," and "From in Front," among many others. The book was highly popular, sold well, and is not uncommon. Signed copies, however, are rarely found on the market.
