(Paris): Salle Pleyel, n.d. (1947). Single card, approx. 4 X 5 in., printed on one side; one perforated edge. Grease-pencil notation on front; pencil notation on rear. Item #206081
Original ticket stub from Guitry's lecture at the prestigious Salle Pleyel, held on October 21, 1947. It was Guitry's first postwar public appearance. The grease-pencil notation on the front supplies the assigned seat numbers for the ticket holder. One of France's most prolific and popular stars, Guitry had managed to work throughout the Nazi occupation and came under suspicion of having been a collaborator. Upon liberation, he was arrested and held at the concentration camp at Drancy. Although he was cleared of all charges, suspicion lingered, as did ill health resulting from his incarceration.
