Oberlin (Ohio): 1979. Single sheet of heavy textured paper, approx. 12 X 18 in. Folded horizontally, with slight discoloration at the fold and a hint of toning toward the edges. Item #206074
A unique brush-and-ink handwritten manuscript of this early poem, with an ink illustration, written and inscribed as a gift for the poet Russell Edson on the occasion of Edson's visit to Oberlin. The text shows some variations in comparison with the published version. Both Edson and Wright had close ties to the creative writing program at Oberlin, Wright as an alumnus and Edson as a close friend of the program's longtime director Stuart Friebert. Wright received the Pulitzer Prize in 2004 for his collection Walking to Martha's Vineyard.
