This was the first volume of Pope's Collected Works, including the Essay on Criticism, The Rape of the lock, Pastorals, Translations, and more. In front are dedicatory poems by John Sheffield, Anne Countess of Winchelsea, Wycherly, Fr. Knapp, E. Fenton, T. Parnell, and Simon Harcourt. This copy, which contains the folding frontispiece portrait, has a distinguished provenance, with the ownership signature of the writer Gilbert Wakefield and the later bookplate of the Hawaii-born American attorney and diplomat William Richards Castle.
