London: T. Cadell, 1775. First Edition. 8vo, [viii] 79pp; pages window-mounted in quarto leaves and bound in full tan polished calf gilt by Riviere. Bookplate; with Kemble's characteristic inscription "Collated Perfect, JPK 1798" to the margin adjacent to the title page; covers a trifle spotted and with some rubbing, very nice indeed. Item #205795
A leading actor of his day -- and brother to the greatest actress, Sarah Siddons -- Kemble was also a major collector. This copy of Francklin's unacknowledged adaptation of Voltaire, typifies his collection, with its perfect collated copies put into uniform Riviere bindings. The bookplate is that of Morris and Olga Woolf.
