A leading actor of his day -- and brother to the greatest actress, Sarah Siddons -- Kemble was also a major collector. This copy of Cradock's eastward-looking fantasy based upon Voltaire's "Les Scythes," (with a prologue by Oliver Goldsmith), typifies his collection, with its perfect collated copies put into uniform Riviere bindings. The bookplate is that of Morris and Olga Woolf.
