This is Trumbo's essay protesting the conviction of 14 California socialists and union activists under the Smith Act, which charged them with advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government. This is one of 750 numbered copies signed by Trumbo -- there were also unsigned copies -- as part of an appeal for donations to aid in the legal defense. Despite its relatively generous edition, this has become a rather scarce book, especially so in fine condition.
