First edition of Dreiser's most celebrated novel, this copy with an original typed letter signed by Dreiser to a reader of the book in England who had written to him. Dreiser thanks him for having pointed out an error, presumably in the first English printing of the book, and notes that a correction will be made to future editions. Also present is a handwritten draft of the original letter to Dreiser. An American Tragedy was adapted twice for the screen, once under its original title by Josef von Sternberg and again by George Stevens as "A Place in the Sun"
