The Story of a Lover
New York: Boni and Liveright, 1919. First edition. 8vo, 201pp; blue cloth. Just about fine in a torn and internally tape-mended dust jacket with a large piece missing from the rear panel. Item #205089
Anonymously authored by Hapgood, one of the founders of the Provincetown Players and a fixture in the Greenwich Village Bohemian scene, this book turned into one of Liveright's first notable legal battles with censors who deemed it obscene. It was not, however, until the book had reached its third printing that authorities took notice. This first printing is quite uncommon, especially in any amount of the dust jacket.
