Los Angeles: Californians Against Proposition 14, 1964. Broadsheet, printed on both sides of a single leaf, approx. 7-1/4 X 11 inches. Evenly toned. Item #204710
An appeal to union members, who remembered the anti-union ballot measure of six years earlier, to oppose the discriminatory housing measure up for a vote in 1964. The verso lists scores of religious leaders and groups, as well as civic groups, city and county public bodies, state public bodies, public officials and leaders, newspapers and other organizations all opposed to the measure. Despite stiff opposition, the measure was enacted, restoring restrictive housing covenants and remaining law, under extended legal challenge, until 1974.
