Los Angeles: (Black Panther Party), 1970. Broadside, single legal-size leaf, approx. 8-1/2 X 14 inches, printed on one side. Folded once horizontally; fine. Item #204469
Poster announcing the rally on Jan 6. 1970 featuring speakers David Hilliard, Angela Davis, and others in support of the LA BPP members who had been jailed since a police raid on their headquarters in December 1969, just days after the police killings of Fred Hampton and Mark Clark in Chicago. The events marked a culmination of the FBI's COINTELPRO covert actions that promoted hostilities between the Panthers and Ron Karenga's US group, which resulted in a fatal shooting on the UCLA campus in 1969. This poster has a small photo of four chained prisoners; the letters of the word "rally" are separated by panther logos.
