Black Tents

New York: Horace Liveright, 1930. First edition. 8vo, 218pp; black cloth stamped in gilt on dark blue. Stamping slightly flaked, otherwise fine in a lightly chipped dust jacket, spine sunned a shade. Item #205654

A story in dramatic form by the prolific author of pulps and fantastic fiction. Abdullah himself was a character of some intrigue and perhaps fantasy. His own unconfirmed account of his life was that he was born in Russia as a descendant of the Romanoff tsars, educated in England, and served in the British army in Afghanistan. He found writing success in the U.S. in popular magazines, as well as in Hollywood, where he counted among his screenwriting credits the classic films "The Thief of Baghdad" and "Lives of a Bengal Lancer." Handsome dust jacket art by Sugar.
